Our History
Pepperdine Graziadio Business School was founded in 1969 and endowed by George L. Graziadio Jr., in 1996. Graziadio's core values are anchored in integrity, courage with compassion, a pioneering spirit, and action taken "today not tomorrow."
Our focus is on a student-centric, "real world of business" education. We are dedicated to shaping leaders who will contribute to the betterment of business practice. Our ethos can be traced back to our founding and is reflected in our program offerings to this day.
Pepperdine Graziadio Business School: Timeline
1968-1988: Planting the Seeds of Innovation

Board of Regents approves Sime's proposal to create a school of business at Pepperdine College.

Dr. Sime becomes the full-time dean of the school of business (1969-1978).

Dr. Dudley teaches the first class of what becomes the Presidential/Key Executive Program.

The college has achieved university status. The Fully Employed MBA program launched.

The business school launches the Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration degree program.

The business school adopts the Master of Science in Organization Development (MSOD) degree.

Kenton L. Anderson, DBA becomes dean of the business school (1978-1982)

MBA III program is developed for retired Military officers struggling to find a job in the civilian world.

The Pepperdine University Plaza is relocated to West Los Angeles. The BSM program launched.

James R. Wilburn, PhD becomes Dean of the business school (1982-1994)

Ribbon cutting ceremony of Pepperdine Plaza

Executive MBA program launched.

The business school initiated a residential MBA program on the Malibu campus

The business school opens its campus doors at Corporate Pointe in Culver City

Arnold Beckman donates the first gift to the business school for a center for the management of technology.
1989-2009 Expanding Upon a Rooted Foundation

Long beach graduate campus opens

Robert M. Canady, DBA becomes interim dean of Pepperdine Graziadio Business School (1994 – 1995).

Westlake Village campus is opened. Otis W. Baskin, PhD is named dean of the business school (1995 – 2001).

The business school is named after benefactor George L. Graziadio Jr. after receiving $15M.

The business school's first full-time MBA launched. The Graziadio Business Review (GBR) launched.

Pepperdine Graziadio Business School receives the prestigious AACSB accreditation.

William G. Larson, JD is named interim dean of the business school (2001-2002).

Linda A. Livingstone, PhD is named dean of the business school (2002-2014)

The Drescher Graduate Campus is completed. The E2B MBA Consulting program launched.

Pepperdine Graziadio Business School introduces MS in Applied Finance and Global Business in Malibu.

Graziadio launches MS in Management and Leadership in West LA.

The Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project's first report was released. The SEER program was developed.
2010-2019 Paving Successful Pathways

Pepperdine Microenterprise program launched. The Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence launched. Center for Applied Research was launched.

David M. Smith, PhD serves as interim dean and dean (2014-16).

Center for Women in Leadership (CWL) program launched in the fall. MS in Human Resources launches.

Deryck J. van Rensburg is named dean of the business school. Pepperdine Graziadio Business School launches a new full-time Master of Science in Applied Analytics in Malibu.

AEG and Pepperdine University Partner launch sports and entertainment-focused program where students will be able to gain hands-on experience. MS in Real Estate Investment and Finance launches in Malibu.

Graziadio launches Executive Doctor of Business Administration in Malibu.

Graziadio Business School hosts largest event ever to celebrate 50th anniversary at LA Live featuring Steve Wozniak of Apple, Salim Ismail of OpenExO, Britta Wilson of Pixar, and many more.
