The Pepperdine University Graziadio School of Business and Management is launching a new Master of Science in Human Resources (MSHR) degree program starting in January 2016. The MSHR program is designed for professionals who want to elevate their careers and take on more strategic leadership roles that align human resources with business growth objectives.
“The art of managing human capital is evolving as it now includes the ability to evaluate emerging trends and craft solutions that support business growth”
“The art of managing human capital is evolving as it now includes the ability to evaluate emerging trends and craft solutions that support business growth,” said Mark Allen, PhD, Pepperdine Organizational Theory and Management faculty, consultant and author. “The next generation of forward-thinking HR professionals needs to have an expanded portfolio of both technical and human skills so that they can become strategic business partners within their organizations. The cohort-based program and small class sizes at the Graziadio Business School offer a collaborative and innovative learning experience for human resource professionals.”
The MS in Human Resources aligns with the official curriculum requirements approved by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and supported by the AACSB. The five-trimester, 39-unit program originates from the rich traditions of the human resources discipline integrated with targeted core business principles that expand HR theory and practice.
Concepts from behavioral sciences include enhanced self-awareness, group dynamics, change management and organizational development. Students also learn business principles such as financial accounting and economic concepts. Students will gain mastery of a full range of human capital management approaches through courses on job design, compensation, talent and performance management, and HR-specific classes on strategy, law, analytics and digital-information platforms.
Emphasis is placed on the application of these concepts to current and future issues facing HR managers, such as increasing the influence of the HR function, developing and sustaining strategic alignment with the overall business, and the development and implementation of processes that demonstrate empirical results in individual, team, and overall organizational performance.
Courses are offered through evening classes and an integrative workshop that provide a highly interactive learning environment. This five-trimester program is designed to be completed in 19 months. Courses are offered at the West Los Angeles campus. For more information about the MSHR visit: https://bschool.pepperdine.edu/mshr
