Robert Lee Shares Expert Insights on Best Budgeting Apps with WalletHub

Robert Lee, accounting faculty member at Pepperdine Graziadio Business School, recently
contributed expert advice to WalletHub’s feature on the best budgeting apps for 2025. As part of the national conversation
on financial wellness, Lee emphasized the importance of selecting an app that users
will consistently engage with, noting that “budgeting provides many valuable benefits,
but only if you use your budget and consistently stick to it.”
Lee also cautioned against one of the most common mistakes people make: creating a
budget but failing to revisit it. He likened this to “gathering all the ingredients
for a meal and then leaving them on the counter, you have prepared the meal, but you
have not followed through.” His guidance reinforces the value of consistency, recommending
that individuals check in with their budget weekly or monthly to ensure financial
plans remain on track.
When asked about what traits the best budgeting apps share, Lee stressed simplicity.
The most effective tools, he said, are easy to use and understand, empowering users
to develop strong financial habits over time.
WalletHub’s editors compared 17 leading budgeting apps, evaluating their ability to track income,
sync financial accounts, categorize spending, and provide personalized insights. According
to a WalletHub survey cited in the piece, nearly three in four Americans believe more people should
adopt budgeting apps, a perspective echoed by Lee’s advice on long-term financial
stability and freedom.
