Publisher Awards Dr. Gary Mangiofico for Scholarly Excellence

Associate Dean Gary Mangiofico has been selected for the Outstanding Author Contribution award in the 2014 Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence. The editors of the book series “Organizing for Sustainable Effectiveness” cite Dr. Mangiofico’s book chapter in their new third volume as one of the most impressive pieces of work the team has seen throughout 2013. The chapter, “Using Trans-Organizational Development and Complexity Theory Frameworks to Establish a New Early Childhood Education Network”, describes the development of an early childhood learning network. Mangiofico explores the unfolding dynamics and emerging meaning that became central to facilitating the design, development, and implementation of the complex multi-stakeholder network. He identifies 12 implications from complexity theory for practitioners of trans-organization development, and then applies those implications to the process and understanding of development stages of an early childhood education network. Prior to joining the faculty at Pepperdine’s Graziadio School of Business and Management, Mangiofico co-founded and served as chief executive officer of Los Angeles Universal Preschool (LAUP), an independent public benefit corporation working to make voluntary, high-quality preschool available to every 4-year-old in Los Angeles County, regardless of their family's income by 2014. Dr. Mangiofico has more than 20 years of experience leading strategic development, operations management and integration, and turnaround operations solving complex challenges as a CEO, COO, and as a general management executive for both start-ups and Fortune 50 companies, including Johnson & Johnson Health Care Services, Apria Healthcare Group and CPC Alhambra Hospital. For the Graziadio School, Mangiofico leads the design and delivery of evening and weekend degree programs for high-value executives, including the Executive MBA, Presidents and Key Executive (PKE) MBA and Master of Science in Organization Development degree programs, as well as non-degree executive education programs and corporate relations. He oversees the administration of financial aid, student accounts and admission. He shares responsibility for enhancing the classroom experiences of students, along with goals related to quality control and accreditation. Every year the Emerald Group Publishing invites the editorial team of each journal and book in its network  – made up of eminent academics and managers – to nominate what they believe has been that title’s Outstanding Paper and up to three Highly Commended Papers from the previous 12 months. Emerald is a global publisher linking research and practice to the benefit of society. Drs. Susan A. Mohrman, Abraham B. (Rami) Shani, and the Grazaidio School's own Chris Worley are editors of the “Organizing for Sustainable Effectiveness” series.
