Playing a New Tune: How the Vinyl Record Value Chain Is Being Digitally Transformed


In a recent opinion piece published on Forbes.com, Dr. Nelson Granados, Pepperdine Graziadio School associate professor of information systems, explores Qrates, a new venture that allows artists and labels to digitally aggregate global demand for vinyl records. Qrates works by crowdsourcing demand via Vinylize.it and crowdfunding the production, a process that turns the vinyl value chain on its head by going from a push-based model (production drives sales) to pull-based (demand drives production). Granados says, “This is one of the most interesting attempts at value chain transformation that I have seen lately in media and entertainment.”  Read more
