Pepperdine Graziadio Alumnus John Rose (DBA ‘23) to Present at Academy of Management's 84th Annual Meeting

John RosePepperdine Graziadio Business School alumnus Dr. John Rose (DBA ‘23) will present his peer-reviewed paper at the 84th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in Chicago this August. The paper, titled "Evaluating the Effects of Organizational Culture on Post-Merger Integration," co-authored with Pepperdine Graziadio faculty member Dr. Ann Feyerherm, based on Rose's dissertation in the Executive Doctor of Business Administration program, examines how cultural considerations during due diligence can influence merger and acquisition (M&A) success.

The research delves into the critical role organizational culture plays in the success of M&As. Rose and Feyerherm's study emphasizes the importance of cultural considerations during the due diligence phase of M&A transactions. Their findings suggest that recognizing and addressing cultural differences early on can lead to more informed decisions and realistic expectations, ultimately improving the likelihood of successful integration.

The study employed a mixed-methods approach, including a retrospective examination of closed M&A transactions. Key findings indicate that cultural calibration, founder involvement, and employee engagement are crucial for successful integration. The study also highlights the unique challenges faced by cross-border mergers, suggesting areas for future research.

Rose's presentation aims to provide valuable insights and practical recommendations for Boards of Directors and C-suite executives. By exploring the multifaceted aspects of cultural alignment and integration, the research empowers decision-makers to navigate the complexities of M&A with heightened awareness and strategic foresight. This comprehensive study offers a roadmap for fostering enhanced integration, improved performance, and sustainable business success in the ever-evolving landscape of mergers and acquisitions.
