Graziadio PKE Alumnus, Chung Sye-Kyun, Elected as Speaker of National Assembly


Chung Sye-Kyun of the Minjoo Party of Korea (formerly Democratic Party) and Pepperdine Graziadio MBA alum, was elected landslide as speaker of South Korea's unicameral National Assembly on June 9, 2016. Chung became the sixth-term lawmaker after he beat the powerful former Seoul Mayor Oh Se-Hoon of the ruling Saenuri Party at Jongno-gu District at General Election held on April 13, 2016. Beginning his political career in 1995 as a special advisor to then President Kim Dae-Jung, he was first elected to the National Assembly a year later. Throughout Chung’s career, he has held a series of key posts including chief of planning and policy coordination, commerce minister, and chairman of the Democratic Party. Chung earned his MBA in the Presidents and Key Executives program at Pepperdine University in 1990.
