Fired Google Memo Writer Draws Jeers, Cheers and a Job Offer | Business Insider
Dr. Bernice Ledbetter Quoted about Google Memo Scandal
David Ingram and Jonathan Allen of Reuters cover the recent firing of James Damore
by Google for releasing an incendiary memo on diversity and hiring. In the article,
which was picked up by Business Insider, Dr. Bernice Ledbetter is quoted. Dr. Ledbetter is Practitioner Faculty of Organizational
Theory and Management and Academic Director of the MS in Management and Leadership
program at the Pepperdine Graziadio Business School, and Director of the Center for
Women in Leadership at Pepperdine University. She contribues regularly to the Huffington Post on matters relating to gender and diversity in the workplace, and recently penned
a HuffPo column on the firing of Damore – an act she sees as just.
Ingram and Allen quote Ledbetter as saying Damore is "walking dangerously between
who he is personally and who he is professionally." The Ingram-Allen article covers
the "cheers and jeers" reaction to the memo – a manifesto embraced by some, particularly
on the political right. Others found the views, which argued that men may be biologically
more suited to coding jobs than women, offensive.
