Human resource practitioners sometimes have to face ethical and moral dilemmas, which can put them between what their higher ups want and what the law requires. Dana Sumpter shares how the pandemic and switch to a remote workforce can lead to individuals not thinking through things and potentially lead to unethical choices. According to the 2021 Global Business Ethics Survey Report by the Ethics & Compliance Initiative, 30 percent of U.S. employees surveyed felt pressured to compromise their workplace ethics. Sumpter provides tips on how an HR professional can respond when they are asked to do something illegal, “asking questions to help leaders expand beyond their stereotypes and notions… you can nudge leaders in the direction they should be going and coach them on the long-term impact of their choices.”
