Correction: Lending to Women Story | WTOP

NEW YORK (AP) — In a story Oct. 18 about lending to women-owned businesses, The Associated Press reported erroneously that the bank surpassed its goal for loans to women-owned companies in 2013. It actually surpassed it in 2016.

On October 19, 2017, the Associated Press issued a correction for Joyce Rosenberg's article on female business owners and debt financing. The piece cites research findings from a Pepperdine Graziadio Business School survey conducted in partnership with Dun & Bradstreet, which indicate that it is more difficult for women to obtain business loans. The orignal AP article reported erroneously that a bank surpassed its goal for loans to women-owned companies in 2013, when it was actually in 2016. Because of federal anti-discrimination laws, there are no official tallies on lending to women-owned companies. Banks therefore track lending to women via their own surveys.
