Brandon Parsons Analyzes Impact of Trade Tariffs on ABC7 News

In a recent segment on ABC7 Eyewitness News, Pepperdine Graziadio faculty member and economist Brandon Parsons provided an in-depth analysis of recent trade tariffs, focusing on their implications for the U.S. economy and international trade relations. The discussion centered on the administration's decision to impose tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China, a move that has escalated trade tensions and raised concerns about potential inflation.

Parsons highlighted the immediate effects of the tariffs, noting that they can lead to increased costs for imported goods, which could result in higher prices for consumers. He emphasized that while the tariffs aim to protect domestic industries, they may also provoke retaliatory measures from affected countries.

"With certain products like avocados, where 90% come from Mexico, Americans will just see higher prices. In the case of avocado, where there isn't a whole lot of other countries to my understanding that are selling them, it's likely that that cost is just going to be added to the consumer," said Parsons.

Parsons also discussed the broader economic implications, indicating that prolonged trade disputes could disrupt global supply chains.
