Mark Allen Shares Insight on Post-pandemic Impact to Labor

Mark Allen portraitThe pandemic caused many individuals to flee urban areas and seek a safe haven in other parts of California and across the nation. As the pandemic, restrictions, and remote work dragged on, employees or those that were laid off reflected on their pre-covid work-life balance. Mark Allen shares his expertise on how the pandemic resulted in several individuals reevaluating their careers and switching careers and how employers are now challenged with a talent shortage. “For companies, the most valuable currency today is not money, but flexibility. Employers need to offer workers what they want… flexibility,” said Allen.

According to a recent survey by FlexJobs, 58% of workers said if an employer is inflexible they would look for another job and 40% would even consider quitting. Allen mentions the traditional expectations of reporting daily to the office is a thing of the past. For recruiting new talent and retaining existing talent, companies will need to remain in flex, adjust workplace arrangements, and most likely land in a hybrid arrangement. Allen highlights another challenge employers will have to overcome in the post-pandemic workplace is maintaining a healthy workplace culture that engages the staff, even while working remotely.
