Graziadio Faculty Lead Conversation on the Future of the Real Estate Market, COVID's Lasting Impact, and Reimagining the Sector

The coronavirus has changed the way people live and work. As employees continue to work from home and consumers are relying more on technology to connect with the outside world, one sector to be heavily impacted is real estate. The real estate sector is made up of three main segments: residential real estate, commercial real estate, and industrial real estate. Each segment was impacted differently as the pandemic struck and altered everyone’s life. To lead the conversations on what the future of the sector will look like, continued challenges born from the pandemic, and the unexpected opportunities, Pepperdine Graziadio hosted a virtual real estate event, Leading Edge Conversations: The Future of Real Estate, inviting prominent alumni, board members, and experts from across the real estate industry to discuss current challenges, opportunities, and what the future of real estate will look like.

Leading Edge Conversations: The Future of Real Estate, hosted by Dr. Abraham Park and moderated by alum Charles Bassett (MBA ‘11), was an insightful conversation with a panelist that discussed how the industry is responding to the evolving changes and challenges the pandemic has presented. Industry leads also discuss the unexpected opportunities and innovation businesses are implementing to remain relevant.

Leading Edge Conversations: The Future of Office Space, spotlights Adam Henderson, President and CEO of Sleepy Hollow Investment Company, where he shares his thoughts on the impact of COVID-19 on commercial real estate and what the future workplace may look like.

Leading Edge Conversations: Changing Your Business Model, features Paul Hamilton, President and CEO of Greenspun Corporation, sharing how he assesses struggling businesses and identifies components of the business model or operations that need to be prioritized to succeed long-term.

Paul Martinkovic, CEO of Jerde Partnership, projects that one third of malls in the United States will go out of business in the next one to two years.

Leading Edge Conversation: Reimagining the Retail World with Larry Kosmonth, Chairman and CEO of Kosmont Companies, highlights why the retail world must be redesigned and rebuilt. Retail is a driving force for restarting the economy. Larry shares how placing higher density residential next to creative office spaces, open spaces, and active environments will be the key to rebuilding the retail industry and economy.
