Associate Professor of Economics Paul Gift, PhD, contributes to Forbes on a Nevada Employment Security Division Certificate of Judgment citing Mayweather Promotions' delinquency on contributions to the state's Unemployment Compensation Fund and Claimant Employment Fund.
Dr. Gift states that it is not the monetary amount of the delinqency that is of interest, but the timing, as it coincided with news that Floyd Mayweather Jr. still owed the IRS $22.2 million in taxes from 2015. Mayweather Jr. had also petitioned the U.S. Tax Court for an installment agreement in anticipation of a "significant liquidity event." Dr. Gift says this event is believed to be his a boxing match with UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor.
