Financing a Challenge for Women-Owned Firms | Valley News

New York — Getting a bank loan is still a struggle for many women who own businesses.

The Valley News, which serves communities in New Hampshire and Vermont, picked up a Joyce Rosenberg Associated Press piece on women and access to business loans. In the article, Rosenberg cites a Pepperdine Graziadio Business School survey conducted in partnership with Dun & Bradstreet. Per the findings, only 21 percent of female business owners said they expected to raise debt financing easily in the next six months, compared with 44 percent of all companies surveyed.
Rosenberg notes that since women have been starting companies at a high rate in the last decade, many have young businesses, which could affect access to financing. At the same time, the article points out a disparity between the amount of financing typically awarded to female business owners as opposed to male business owners, indicating a degree of gender bias.
