Pepperdine Graziadio Students Explore Globalization in Action at Port of Los Angeles
Pepperdine Graziadio BS in Management, MS in Global Business, and MBA students had the unique opportunity to witness globalization in action during their annual visit to the Port of Los Angeles. This longstanding Pepperdine Graziadio tradition offers students a firsthand look at the complexities of global trade through the cutting-edge operations of TraPac, one of the world's leading container ports.
Hosted by Pepperdine Graziadio alumnus Bill Schopp (MBA ‘90), Director of Operations at TraPac, the visit provided an immersive experience into the high-tech world of international shipping and logistics. Schopp expertly guided the large group through TraPac’s expansive terminal, showcasing the intricate coordination of loading and unloading cargo with fully automated carriers.
Students gained valuable insights into TraPac's strategic investments in infrastructure, its commitment to environmental sustainability, and the challenges posed by public policy. The briefing covered key topics such as longshore workers' labor negotiations, California's stringent environmental targets, and the evolving landscape of global market dynamics.
This annual visit not only highlights the practical application of classroom concepts but also reinforces the critical role of technology, policy, and sustainability in the future of global trade.
