Alteryx Sponsoring Joint Graziadio-Seaver Analytics Datathon on March 31
Alteryx, the Irvine-based leading data analytics platform co-founded by Graziadio Business School alumnus Dean Stoecker (MBA ‘84), will be sponsoring a joint Graziadio-Seaver Analytics Datathon on Friday, March 31 at the Drescher Campus from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (PT). Alteryx will be providing free access to their analytics software, two virtual Alteryx training sessions in advance of the event, "swag" for all participants, and $4,000 in scholarships which will be shared among students on the winning and runner-up teams. The competition teams will be composed of students from the Graziadio MSBA and Seaver College data minor programs. 70-75 students from each school are expected to participate. The event will include a keynote delivered by Dean Stroeker, Los Angeles Deputy Mayor, Jeanne Holm, and Pepperdine Graziadio alumnus Dr. Michael Cusumano (EMBA ‘95, DBA ‘22), managing director of the Cusumano Real Estate Group. The problem solving issue that will be the focus of the datathon is the critical shortage of affordable housing in Los Angeles, which contributed to the recently declared state of emergency on homelessness. With the support of Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Jeanne Holm and Los Angeles Chief Data Officer Eva Pereira, students will have access to pertinent datasets within the Los Angeles City Open Data repository and additional datasets from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) to allow teams to analyze the problem and identify potential solutions.
