Sabrina Ashjian (JD '07, MBA '08) Honored with The Advancement of Women Award from Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles
The Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles (WLALA) recently gathered at NOOR in
Pasadena for its annual Installation and Awards Gala, celebrating the theme "Opening
Doors of Opportunity." Among this year’s distinguished honorees was Sabrina Ashjian
(JD '07, MBA ‘08), who received The Advancement of Women Award in recognition of her
exemplary leadership in empowering women in law, politics, and public service.
During her acceptance speech, Ashjian encouraged members to take an active role in
shaping policy and representation.
"Don’t wait for someone to tap you on the shoulder," she said. "We’ve reached gender
parity in the California Assembly, and we’re close in the Senate. There are 4,500
commission seats in the state—4,500 places where women’s voices must be heard."
Ashjian emphasized the importance of building pipelines for women through partnerships
with organizations like Close the Gap California and the California Commission on
the Status of Women and Girls. “We are coming together to amplify one another’s voices
and to build the next generation of leaders,” she added.
A tireless advocate for gender equity and civic engagement, Ashjian serves as President
of California Women Lead, former President of the National Women’s Political Caucus
of California, past Vice Chair of Emerge California, and Advisory Board Member of
Fund Her, in addition to her involvement with 50/50 Women on Boards.
Established in 1993 and originally named for women’s rights pioneer Myra Bradwell,
The Advancement of Women Award honors individuals and organizations that have made
significant contributions to advancing women lawyers and issues important to women.
Ashjian’s recognition reflects her lifelong commitment to ensuring that women have
a seat at every table, from elected office to corporate leadership, continuing Pepperdine’s
legacy of inclusive leadership and service.
