Pepperdine mourns the loss of Graziadio Business School student Charlene Garcia, who passed away on March 30, 2026. She was 39 years old.
A Los Angeles native, Charlene started at Pepperdine Graziadio Business School in the spring of 2025. Charlene was pursuing an online MBA and was expected to graduate in December 2026. Charlene was a dedicated student and was midway through her studies, deeply engaged in her coursework, at the time of her passing. Charlene, who was 39 and would have turned 40 in August, held a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in business law from California State University, Northridge. She built her career working in the business field, bringing both professional experience and academic excellence to her studies.
Remembering Charlene and her time at Pepperdine, Jillian Alderman, associate professor of accounting, shared, "Charlene was a remarkable student whose presence left a lasting impression. She approached her work with a genuine curiosity and care that set her apart. In every interaction, she demonstrated both intellectual engagement and a kindness toward others that enriched the Pepperdine community. She will be deeply missed, and I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to know and teach her."
Craig Everett, assistant professor of finance, said, "Charlene was my student last
term and also this current term. She had a very cheerful and kind demeanor and always
had a smile on her face. She was kind to everyone and helpful to her fellow students.
Charlene was a great example of Pepperdine values, and she will be greatly missed.
I feel blessed to have known her. My sincere condolences to her family, friends, and
classmates."
"Charlene was unstoppably optimistic," observed Joetta Forsyth, professor of finance.
"She approached my course with energy and enthusiasm. What an inspiration she was!"
A viewing will be held on April 15, followed by a funeral Mass on April 16 at 11 AM and funeral services at San Fernando Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary in Mission Hills, California.
