Brandon Parsons’ Study Reveals Renewable Energy Key to Reducing CO2 Emissions in Developing Countries
Brandon Parsons, an economist and faculty member at Pepperdine Graziadio Business School, co-authored a study published in ScienceDirect examining the role of renewable energy consumption and environmental taxes in reducing CO2 emissions in 36 developing countries from 1994 to 2018.
The findings highlight the significant impact of renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and biofuels, advocating for increased investment in infrastructure and technology to accelerate adoption. Conversely, environmental taxes have been less effective due to implementation challenges and institutional constraints, suggesting they alone may not drive meaningful emission reductions.
The study underscores the need for policies that prioritize subsidies, investments in renewable energy, and technological advancements to achieve sustainable progress.
