Dr. Bernice Ledbetter Authors Opinion on Equipping Women with Opportunities to Thrive in Smart Machine Age


A recent study from McKinsey Global Institute, about the future of women at work, found that the expansion of artificial intelligence will likely replace many jobs predominantly held by women. Dr. Bernice Ledbetter shared her insight on how policy makers and businesses can take steps to increase opportunities for women to adapt their skillset to change job functions or pursue new career opportunities. She lists three recommendations that can help women for the future of work and safeguard them from being displaced: increase mentorship opportunities for women, create opportunities for women to hone leadership and utilize ‘soft skills,’ and increase investment in childcare and early childhood education. The Institute for Women’s Policy Research data from Women, Automation, and the Future of Work, found that women account for 58% of workers employed in fields facing the highest risk for automation.
