L.A. County Hits Lowest Unemployment Rate in Decades | L.A. Business Journal

Howard Fine writes for the Los Angeles Business Journal (LABJ) on L.A. County's lowest unemployment rate in decades. At 4.6% in March 2017, it was the lowest level in 30 years, state figures show. The unemployment rate fell even as the county’s labor force grew.

"This is a good sign and indicates that even as the local economy is now very strong and nearing full employment, there is a little more room to grow," said David M. Smith, PhD, Associate Professor of Economics and Associate Provost for Online Programs at the Pepperdine Graziadio Business School. In the LABJ article, Dr. Smith also noted that other cities in the county, including Compton and East Los Angeles, still had unemployment rates topping 6%. "These areas still have room for improvement," he said.
