Leicester City Wins English Premier League And Takes Over Social Media


The biggest Cinderella story in soccer and sports had the happiest of endings and the social media party has taken off writes Dr. Nelson Granados, Associate Professor of Information Systems at the Graziadio Business School in his latest Forbes post. Leicester City made sports history by winning the toughest soccer league in the world, while just a couple years ago it was a team struggling to stay in the first division. Within a minute after the final whistle 140,000 tweets were sent worldwide that had the word “Leicester”, and after 5 minutes almost half a million tweets had been sent. An analysis of millions of tweets, posts, likes, comments, and shares shows that fans had a hunch about Leicester City’s victory all along since December. "Soccer is the most popular sport around the world, and this Cinderella story is so amazing that it is attracting the attention of just about anybody who hears about it," says Dr. Granados.
