Dr. Gary Mangiofico Counsels Healthcare Stakeholders to Adapt to New Delivery Models or Risk Being Left Behind

Dr. Gary Mangiofico, executive professor of leadership and management at Pepperdine Graziadio Business School, writes that healthcare stakeholders – including physicians, patients and administrators – must realign to succeed under value-based, or accountable, care. Patients, he suggests, must act like consumers rather than passive recipients of care, while physicians need to embrace data-driven tools and administrators should prepare for short-term instability as part of their risk management strategy. According to Dr. Mangiofico, “Ultimately, the biggest barrier to the transition from volume-based to value-based care is not a redesign of logistics, finance, or operations, but rather the ability of stakeholders within the system to change their way of thinking and functioning.”
