Professional Experience
Mr. Holland's business career has spanned over 30 years in both the profit and non-profit business sectors. During this time his experiences have included both entrepreneurial startups as well as corporate level executive positions. He founded California Athletic Club, a successful chain of health and fitness facilities, which was sold to 24-Hour Fitness and became an integral part of their national expansion and overall growth strategy. John also developed and founded a second chain of health clubs, Generation Fitness, which was sold to a private investor.

Following his entrepreneurial career, John entered the non-profit industry as an executive director of the Emergency Housing Consortium and later as Chief Operating Officer for the largest non-profit affordable housing provider in Santa Clara County. He has also served on a number of boards of directors, including that of United States Swimming for the Western U.S. and the Shelter Provider Network, where he was the chairman. He was also a key member of the Executive Board for Collaborative Affordable Housing in Santa Clara County.

John's professional expertise includes strategic business development, developing turnaround business strategies, business operations—including financial responsibility and human resource expertise. John currently is the CEO and founding principal of Applied Business Solutions specializing in strategic and implementation planning for startups, organizational behavior and team building strategies and internal operations. John is also a fitness enthusiast and has competed in marathons for 20 years.

Education

Teaching Experience
Mr. Holland has been a professional educator for 25 years. Along with his formal teaching experience, he has developed and conducted corporate training and orientation programs for numerous enterprises. He was also responsible for creating and introducing the curriculum for the first shelter-based Cisco Networking Academy in the United States. He has also been an invited speaker at seminars and classes on such subjects as business and career development, time management, strategic planning and company operations.

Summary
Mr. Holland's extensive experience as an entrepreneur, corporate executive and consultant ensures that EMBA students will receive current and pertinent information relating to all facets associated with successful business ventures. John is also a member of the northern California EMBA Alumni Leadership Council. As a graduate of the EMBA program, he also knows the demands and rigors associated with successfully completing the EMBA program at The Graziadio School.
