Eligibility for Federal Financial Aid
Eligibility for federal financial aid is based on the methodology written into law by the U.S. Congress. Our primary objective is to assist as many students as possible by using a combination of available funds. Loan applications and renewals are processed in the order in which they are completed. If you complete your application by our published deadlines, your loan should be awarded at the beginning of the term. If you apply late and are currently enrolled at the Graziadio School, you will still receive the money once approved; however, it will not be until later in the term.
An application is not complete until all required documentation is submitted. The final determination of eligibility and award rests with the University and is based upon uniform and consistent treatment of family circumstances.
To receive federal funds administered by the Financial Aid Office, you must:
- Have a high school diploma (or equivalent)
- Be enrolled as a regular student (e.g., not special admit, transient, or audit) in a degree-granting program at least half time (4 units for all graduate programs)
- Have a valid Social Security number
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
- Be making satisfactory academic progress toward completion of your degree
- Not owe a refund on any federal grant
- Not be in default on any student loan previously received
- Be registered with the Selective Service and the Immigration and Naturalization Service if required by law to do so
- Not have been rendered ineligible for federal aid as a result of a drug conviction
Federal regulations require that we verify the accuracy of information provided. As a result, applicants may be required to submit federal tax return transcripts, INS and Selective Service status confirmation, etc. The Financial Aid Office will not be able to process your application until all required documents are received.
