Graziadio Spotlight Stories

Osei Gyamfi

Why did you choose Pepperdine University Graziadio Business School?

"The flexibility, class sizes and one-on-one attention from professors is what sold me on Pepperdine University. When I was comparing other schools to the Graziadio Business School, none of them matched Pepperdine's ability to offer students classes at several locations throughout the Los Angeles region and small class sizes that give students the opportunity to have a personal relationship with their instructors."

How would you define the "Pepperdine difference"?

"Pepperdine is defined by its people and how its community works together. ChillHound would not exist without this key differentiator that makes this amazing school. The Pepperdine community is not like anything I have experienced—due to the fact that it cultivates collaboration and connectedness. I think that's why I excelled there. My professors were available at all hours and my peers were willing to put in the extra effort for homework, projects and class assignments."

How did getting your MBA from Pepperdine help to advance your career?

"As an entrepreneur, my Pepperdine MBA taught me to ask the right questions, talk to the right people and address the right problems. It also gave me the confidence to start my own business. Even though ChillHound is my first business venture, I feel like I've done this before. I know what to expect and how to handle difficult situations when they arise."

What is one lesson learned at GSBM that you have been able to apply to your career or personal life?

"I have learned the importance of networking and talking to people in your space. Pepperdine's diverse network of faculty, students and alumni has proven to be invaluable in more ways than I could have imagined."

What is your favorite GSBM memory?

"At the end of my Information Systems Technology course, I was given the Most Likely to be a Millionaire award by Dr. Mark Chun. It's one of three class awards he gives out at the end of the year. I was extremely honored to be given that award because I knew he saw something in me and believed in my potential. It meant a lot to have him in my corner and really made me believe in my ChillHound concept and abilities to bring it to the market."

What advice would you give to someone who is considering seeking an MBA?

"Make sure the school's culture fits you and your learning style. Visit the campus and talk to students and professors to see if it's the right environment for you. If you want to make real connections with people and learn through an entrepreneurial lens then Pepperdine is the only way to go."

How would you describe your ROI on your MBA?

"Securing investment in ChillHound is tangible proof of my ROI. My Pepperdine MBA equipped me with the skill set to problem solve from a business standpoint, and I apply the lessons learned from my classes to ChillHound. Its success thus far is a result of what I gained from my MBA."

How are you supporting or staying engaged with the Pepperdine Community?

"I am often a guest speaker for Graziadio entrepreneurship classes. I talk about my business, how I got started and where I am today in my career. I think it's powerful for current students to hear from someone who's been in their shoes and experienced what they're doing. It also gives them an opportunity to see how their MBA will pay off."
