Graziadio Spotlight Stories
Why did you choose Pepperdine University Graziadio Business School?
"The convenience of the MBAJ and Yellow Ribbon Program was a huge selling point for me. The MBAJ program allows BSM graduates the opportunity to leverage the knowledge gained through their undergraduate curriculum toward the completion of an MBA at an accelerated pace. Coupled with the Yellow Ribbon Program, that made the Graziadio Business School the right fit for me. As a military veteran I knew I could receive tuition funding through the G.I. Bill and earn my MBA in a timely fashion."
How would you define the "Pepperdine difference"?
"You don't just feel like a number at Pepperdine. The instructors offer one-on-one meetings and are available at all hours to ensure students get the most out of their MBA. But it doesn't stop there. At the Graziadio Business School I feel like everyone, from faculty to staff to your peers, genuinely wants to see you succeed and is willing to help you along the way."
How did getting your MBA from Pepperdine help to advance you in your career?
"In today's job market, job candidates need a differentiator and the Pepperdine MBA provides that. The Pepperdine name alone on my resume shows I am well credentialed, and sets me apart from my peers. I also find that when asked tough questions on the job, I am well prepared and have a clear understanding of how to handle difficult business situations. Pepperdine not only taught me how to be a critical thinker, but also instilled an entrepreneurial mindset that I bring to my job every day."
How would you describe your ROI on your MBA?
"In terms of personal growth it has been immeasurable. The people I've met and connections I've made have proven invaluable, especially when seeking guidance about business problems or work-related issues. As far as my business career goes, my Pepperdine MBA has opened doors and led to opportunities that I know I would not have otherwise had access. From getting the initial interview, to being able to understand big picture concepts and solutions as well as underlying problems, it has taken my career to the next level. I look at this as not just my ROI, but also a great investment for the companies that I work for, and I know they would agree."
What advice would you give to someone who is considering seeking an MBA?
"My advice to someone considering an MBA is to do it and don't put it off. It's worth every penny, so take the leap of faith and invest in yourself and your career. You will be surrounded by some of the best and brightest so take full advantage of it."
How are you supporting or staying engaged with the Pepperdine Community?
"I make it a point to reach out to alumni relations and fellow alums to stay connected in any way I can. When I hear of fellow alums doing extraordinary things out in the 'real world' I share their story among our Pepperdine alumni community, and I even connect with them face-to-face a couple times a year. I have also talked to several of my friends who were unsure of what they wanted to do after their sophomore year of study, and without hesitation I've steered them towards the MBAJ program at Pepperdine."
