How Graziadio Professors Are Living Up to Their Reputation

Hello all. If you read my last post, you know I talked about how nice it was to have a good relaxing break, and I also mentioned that I was ready to get back into the full-swing of school.

Brian Clark's blog series discusses daily b-school live at Pepperdine. His respect for his professors, impression of his fellow students, and his enthusiasm for learning inspired him to document his first year at the Graziadio School in a blog.

The first week was pretty intense and all of the students had to hit the ground running. This session I am taking some core concentration classes and my professors are living up to their reputations; they are working me hard but teaching me a lot!

Among the courses I am taking are two E2B classes: one in marketing and one in accounting. The accounting class was recognized in 2010 as one of the top 10 classes in all of college, for both undergrad and masters classes at ALL universities in America. So far it is living up to its reputation and we visit the hosting company tomorrow to dive into more of the valuation case we were presented with when they visited our campus during the first week of classes.

The marketing E2B experience also seems like it will be awesome. We are working on behalf of a very interesting company, while jointly learning great marketing skills. The company operates in the digital space, which is something near and dear to my heart, so I was pretty excited when I learned we’d be working with them.

Additionally, I am taking a finance and an organizational theory class. My finance professor is out to melt my marketing brain, but I am REALLY looking forward to everything I will learn. While I have a marketing focus, I have learned through all my informational interviews with alumni that accounting and finance are integral skills within the marketing field. Did I scare some of you marketing people? Well, I was scared upon learning this, and I will say the material thus far is intense. But it also seems like I will not be able to succeed in the professional realm without these learnings.

While all the classes are demanding, the students are great and the faculty is really there for me. I have been able to drop in on profs and really get individual time ensuring that I truly learn the material.  Well it is time to get back to my studies and sleep early as we need to leave at 6 am to get to the company on time (oh, poor me).  Look for the next installment of this blog sometime next week and thanks for tuning in!
