March 2nd Event to ‘Wire Together’ the New Hollywood Network

hollywood-it-summitSeven major technology solution providers and leaders have joined together in support of the 2nd Annual Hollywood IT Summit (HITS) on March 2, 2012 at Pepperdine University, in conjunction with the Graziadio School of Business and Management. This Variety-co-produced event is the largest single gathering of IT professionals in Hollywood and the program is being developed under the direction of an advisory board representing all major movie and television studios.

“Entertainment companies that have established a mature IT architecture and infrastructure are often able to take advantage of the new opportunities and barriers that are presenting themselves in the business landscape,” said Dr. Linda A. Livingstone, Dean of the Graziadio School at Pepperdine University.

“In Pepperdine’s MBA programs, we teach that cloud-based computing, portal technologies, and social networking capabilities are only a few examples of technologies that can help (or hinder) entertainment companies from becoming more innovative,” she said. “At the very least, the technology opportunities available on the market can enable the better synchronization of product development and delivery for products and services throughout the value chain.”

The first round of event sponsors include: EIDR, Qlikview, and Teradata (Platinum), MarkLogic and Oracle (Gold), as well as Rovi and Signiant (Brand). In addition, technology solutions and business development representatives are expected to participate from management consulting, IT enterprise software, IT software services, B2B network services, storage, hardware, business intelligence, BPO services, digital services companies and academia.

“HITS has become a unique, collective experience for the entire entertainment IT ecosystem,” says conference chairman and Pepperdine adjunct professor Devendra Mishra. “From the content holders to their service and technology solutions providers, we all gather together once a year with an open mind toward facilitating growth and profitability for our industry.”

Sponsors will participate in an Interactive Solutions Showcase where they will individually “teach” a focused workshop on the industry challenge that their technology is working to address.

Additionally, the HITS 2012 conference sessions include in-depth panels, tutorials and expert presentations on: Digital Marketing; Residuals, Reporting and Participation Systems; Supply Chain Automation and Integration; Digital Distribution from the IT Perspective; Digital Innovation; and Technology Driven Business Transformation.

The conference advisory board includes: Steve Andujar, SVP & CIO, Sony Pictures; John Herbert, EVP & CIO, Twentieth Century Fox; Steve Lapinski, SVP, IT, NBC Universal; Jerry McGlynn, CIO, The Walt Disney Studios; Theresa Miller, EVP, IT, Lionsgate; Jeff Mirich, SVP/CIO, Studio Antipiracy, The Walt Disney Studios; Scott Phelan, Group Information Officer, Warner Bros. Entertainment; and Abe Wong, EVP/CIO, IT, Paramount Pictures. The event is co-produced by the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance (MESA), which manages regular meetings for event sponsors of the Hollywood IT Society (HITS).
