demos-briefProfessor Demos Vardiabasis has been elected to the Board of Advisers for the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Part of the UCLA Health System, Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center is the flagship hospital of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The Center was recently ranked by the U.S. News and World Report as the No. 3 hospital in the nation and as the No. 1 hospital in the West.

rockey-briefProfessor Ed Rockey will deliver his Success Over Stress seminar for The Wellness Community in Ventura, CA on Tuesday, March 23. He offers an eclectic approach to managing stress through discussion, hands-on work and take-home activities. Dr. Rockey, a business consultant who teaches behavioral science and creativity at the Graziadio School, has had much experience in helping people deal with life’s pressures. As a two-time cancer survivor, Ed has personally experienced the stresses associated with cancer and related surgeries. The seminar will be held 6 – 8:00 p.m.at CMH Cancer Resource Center, 120 N. cleo-briefProfessor Charles “Chuck” Leo has had his research paper Intellectual Capital: A Human Resources Perspective accepted for publication in the Journal of Global Business Management (JGBM, Vol.6, Num.1, February, 2010, ISSN 1817-3179). He has been invited to speak at the Professionals in Human Resources Association (PIHRA) Pacific West HR Conference, to be held Sept. 21-23, 2010 at Pasadena Convention Center. He will present on the topic of an article he recently coauthored for PIHRA’s online industry magazine entitled Unraveling the Recession: Strategic Implications for the Human Resources Function. In October, Dr. Leo will head to the International Leadership Association Conference in Boston, MA where he will co-presenter on the topic of leadership and faith in the workplace.



charla-mark-briefProfessors Charla Griffy-Brown and Mark W. S. Chun will be delivering a keynote address at the Public Sector CIO Summit in May. The faculty researchers are collaborating on a project to better understand the changing role of the public sector Chief Information Officer in conjunction with the Center for CIO Leadership and supported by Funds for Excellence. They are seeking to understand the core competencies that these CIOs need so that Pepperdine and other graduate business educators can develop and deliver appropriate education material to help them achieve these competencies. Most recently, Drs. Griffy-Brown and Chun traveled to Washington, D.C. as part of their ongoing research.
