Drew T. Ferraro, MBA ’90, recently was promoted to vice president of marketing for Signature Control Systems, Inc. based in Irvine, California. Signature is a leader in the irrigation industry and designs and manufactures computerized irrigation systems and components. Signature recently completed acquisitions of Nelson Turf and Bear Irrigation and also has a long-term strategic alliance with John Deere Golf to manufacture under the John Deere brand name.
Santiago Giraldo, BA ‘06, MBA ‘09, has joined SG Biofuels as business development manager. SG Biofuels is a San Diego-based sustainable plant oil company specializing in the development of Jatropha as a low-cost, sustainably produced oil that can be used to produce biodiesel, energy or bioplastics. Santiago had been an instrumental, pivotal member of the Graziadio School’s Office of Alumni Relations and Career Services for a number of years. He helped transform the lives of many students and alumni and served as the consummate ambassador of the Pepperdine brand. His influence will have lasting impact.
Larry Hebert, EMBA ’92, an adjunct faculty member at the Graziadio School, as well as an entrepreneur and business consultant, was featured in a San Jose Business Journal profile for start-up SanScape Inc. The venture is seeking capital to deliver low cost high-en video for online education and consumer v-conferencing. Hebert serves on the board of advisors. Larry married in November.
Laverne McKinnon, MBA ’97, has been appointed executive vice president of original programming and development for EPIX. The premium entertainment channel, video-on-demand and online service is a joint venture formed by Viacom Inc., its Paramount Pictures unit, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. and Lionsgate. Previously, she served as president and CEO of Shibui Entertainment and oversaw development of all television and live stage properties for Mike Newell’s production company 50 Cannon, where she served as President. McKinnon worked for ten years at CBS Entertainment, most recently as senior vice president of drama development. Earlier, she had served as director of current programs and director of children’s programs for CBS Entertainment.
Lea Marquez Peterson, MBA ’96, recently became CEO and president of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She has served on the board of the Hispanic Chamber for five years and became the interim CEO and president in August, after the then-president stepped down. An entrepreneur, she and husband started a chain of gas stations and later opened a business-brokerage firm.
Crystal and Chip Reibel, MBA ’09, recently opened the specialty boutique Beyond the Olive in Old Pasadena. “We are a premier source for learning about, tasting and purchasing of California’s high-quality extra virgin olive oil,” said Crystal told Pasadena Weekly. “We sell more than 100 types of olive oil — all extra virgin — all produced by some 35 artisanal ranches in California. Each bottle, or bulk order, averaging about $1 per ounce, is designed for the good health of all and the epicurean cooking experiences for some.” The couple were featured twice in BusinessWeek for applying what they learned in Pepperdine’s entrepreneurial program to starting their business.
Kenneth Wallace, MBA ’88, has been appointed chief operating officer and chief financial officer for Gold Canyon, a leader in scented candles, body and home products based in Chandler, AZ. His responsibilities include overseeing operations, human resources, financial management and information technology. Wallace brings broad experience from holding senior management positions in manufacturing, technology and retail companies. Over the past fifteen years, he has served as vice president of finance, CFO and COO for both publically traded and privately owned companies.
