Matthew R. Begley, MBA ’01, recently was promoted to president of Siemens First Capital Commercial Finance, LLC. Siemens First Capital is a joint venture between Siemens Financial Services, Inc. a firm with some 1,700 employees and an international network of financial companies coordinated by Siemens Financial Services GmbH, Munich, Germany and First Capital, a leading financial services firm headquartered in Boca Raton, Fla. The goal of the joint venture is to further develop both companies’ working capital and accounts receivable financing businesses by offering market-leading solutions to customers in the domestic and Asian markets. Siemens First Capital, with offices in New York and several other locations in the U.S., will focus on asset-based financing between $5 million and $30 million.
Nina Craft, Ph.D., MBA ‘01., aka Dr. Neen, the Think it, Do It! Queen, was recently honored as an Entrepreneur of Distinction by the Orange County Institute for Women, after being nominated by the State Board of Equalization for her outstanding business leadership. Also honoring Dr. Neen, were members of Congress, California Governor Schwarzenegger, members of the California State Assembly and the State Senate as well as the Orange County Board of Supervisors. A pioneer in the field of Social Entrepreneurship, Dr. Neen, has been empowering women, youth and communities for over 20 years with her Think it, Do It!® message.
Allan Cook, MBA ’97, has joined Technicolor. As Senior Vice President of Global Studios, he is responsible for global relationships with Paramount Studios, NBC Universal and Fox Entertainment Group for digital content dstribution.
Chris Emery, MBA ‘06, was appointed COO of the CombiMatrix subsidiary, CombiMatrix Molecular Diagnostics. Emery previously served as vice president of sales and marketing at diagnostics firm Response Genetics. CombiMatrix Molecular Diagnostics is an accredited and certified commercial laboratory, located in Southern California, dedicated to improving patient health by turning important discoveries in the human genetics into high value diagnostic tests.
Daniel Endrei, MBA ’09; Anna Khoubian, MBA ’09; and Michael Tananbaum, MBA ’08, have teamed to launch Oomph!, the only branding strategy consultancy in Los Angeles “that finds your organization’s hidden spark and brings it to the forefront.” Oomph! uses a unique four-step process–Discover – Define – Design – Deploy—to deliver an in-depth, research-based understanding of clients’ surrounding environment, as well as finding their unique position within it.
Daniel S. Feiman, MBA ‘86, published the most recent book in the Build It Backwards series, THE Book on Improving Productivity by Fair Means or Foul. He and his co-editor offer a fresh, insightful and applicable perspective on how to increase productivity for key individuals, teams and organizations using practical action steps and memorable real-world examples. As managing director of Build It Backwards, Feiman provides management consulting and training services that teach how to create & sustain a successful future by leveraging desired targets, core competencies & world-wide best practices.
Vernon Lindholm, BSM ’08, was promoted to the San Francisco Regional Sales Analyst position at Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. (TMS) in San Ramon, CA. TMS, Toyota’s U.S. sales and marketing arm, oversees sales and other operations in 49 states. TMS regional offices coordinate Toyota and Scion vehicle sales, parts and service for dealers in 10 regional areas serving 1,235 Toyota dealers located throughout the U.S. Lindholm has previously held positions at Toyota Racing Development, Scion, and in Toyota Customer Relations.
Eric Manlunas, MBA ‘95, shared his experiences about entrepreneurship and philanthropy at the Ayala Foundation’s Business Forum in September and moderated the panel “Filipino American Profiles of Success”. Manlunas is the founder and managing director of Frontera Group, LLC, a boutique venture capital firm focused on investing in early-stage emerging companies. He previously served as a partner of an LA-based value hedge fund until mid-2006. He is a two-time start-up veteran turned venture capitalist with a strong inclination towards early stage investing. His investment track record includes direct investments in 35 early-stage ventures with 12 successful exits to date and 18 that remain active. These portfolio companies have received close to $400 million in capital.
Liam E. McGee, MBA ‘79, has been named chairman and CEO of life insurer The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. Previously head of consumer banking at Bank of America, McGee said he was leaving to pursue his goal of “running a company.” McGee and his family will relocate from Charlotte, NC, to the greater Hartford area.
Bob Meister, MBA ‘96, joined the U.S. Department of State last year. He currently is assigned to the U.S. Embassy in N’djamena, Chad. Previously, Meister served as director of finance at JibJab Media Inc., the pioneering online media company specializing in digital entertainment production and distribution.
Steve Milovich, MBA ‘99, Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Disney/ABC Television Group, and Graziadio School board member, was presented with the Distinguished Executive Alumnus Award by his undergraduate alma mater Utah State. The Jon M. Huntsman School of Business bestowed its highest honor at a banquet in his honor. A Utah native, Milovich was praised for having a “wonderful moral compass that has never failed him,” said Douglas D. Anderson, dean of the USU business school.
Bruce Poppe, MBA ’95, has joined the energy practice of Marsh USA, Inc. in their Houston office. As a vice president, he provides risk engineering services for refining, chemicals, and upstream petroleum facilities. Marsh is the world’s leading insurance broker and risk advisor.
Robert Muhn, MBA ‘87, has accepted a position as general manager of sales at SoloPower, a California-based manufacturer of thin-film solar photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules. Muhn brings proven success in developing global solar markets and will play an instrumental role as SoloPower nears high volume manufacturing and commercialization in 2010. He previous served as a key executive at Kyocera Sola, AstroPower and Siemens Solar/ARCO Solar.
Jacob Ruytenbeek, MBA ’09, joined the U.S. Department of Defense as a contract specialist in Los Angeles. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University and admitted to practice law in the State of Florida. He is a member of both the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association and the Young Leadership Division of the Florida Bar.
Scott Suekawa, CPA, MBA ‘06, has been promoted to partner at Hutchinson and Bloodgood LLP, a leading certified public accountant and consulting firm serving California businesses and residents for over eighty-seven years. With over ten years experience as a systems consultant, Suekawa focuses on accounting/ERP software systems implementation and project management. He specializes in finance, security, warehouse management, distribution, manufacturing, EDI, business intelligence tools, databases and CRM.
