The Certified Financial Planner™ certification (CFP) is the credential consumers recognize, respect, and demand when choosing a financial planner. Pepperdine Graziadio in partnership with Dalton Education, offers three programs designed to fulfill the Certified Financial Planner™ certification education requirement necessary to attain your CFP® Certification:

  • Guarantee to Pass™: A comprehensive education and review course including personalized study programs and one-on-one instruction from a Dalton faculty member. The program is live-online and participants are guaranteed to pass the CFP® Exam or receive a 100% refund.
  • Virtual Classroom: Instructor-led online education for learners who prefer interaction with instructors and a more structured learning style.
  • Self-Paced Online: Flexibility for professionals who want and need to set their own study schedules.Education is on-line.
  • Financial Plan Presentation

Instruction is led by the country’s premier faculty and curriculum includes: Fundamentals of Financial Planning and Insurance, Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management, Taxation of Persons, Property and Other Entities, Retirement and Employee Benefits, Estate Tax Planning, Capstone Course. In addition, participants can customize their education with supplemental study aids.

Participants in the Guarantee to Pass™ and the Virtual Classroom programs meet two nights per week, for two hours each night. Participants in the Self-Paced Online program customize learning to fit their individual needs.

Curriculum (All Programs):

Fundamentals of Financial Planning and Insurance

  • Introduces participants to the theory and practice of financial planning. It provides an overview of the financial planning process and offers guidance for managing a client's risk while achieving goals through savings and investments. Topics include life, health, disability and long-term care as well as property, Social Security and personal liability insurance. In addition, the course covers time value of money, education and retirement funding. A financial calculator, such as an HP12C or 10bII, is required.

Investment Planning

  • Introduces concepts regarding modern portfolio theory, risk reduction, debt and equity securities, derivatives (including options and futures contracts) and asset allocation strategies. Participants will learn how to determine a client's risk tolerance and select appropriate assets based on the assessed risk tolerance and the client's goals.

Income Tax Planning

  • Provides detailed coverage of gross income inclusions, exclusions, deductions before and after adjusted gross income, and tax credits, while focusing on the taxation of individuals, sole proprietorships, C-corps, S-corps, partnerships and LLCs. In addition, participants will learn planning techniques for taxation avoidance and minimization strategies.

Retirement and Employee Benefit Planning

  • Provides a comprehensive overview of qualified (defined benefit, profit share, 401(k) plans) and non-qualified (deferred compensation, incentive stock options, employee stock purchase plans) retirement plans, other tax-advantaged plans (SIMPLE, Roth and traditional IRAs), and employee benefits. This course also presents an overview of the Social Security disability and health care programs such as Medicare.

Estate Tax Planning

  • Provides professionals with an introduction to wills, trusts, the probate process and the taxation of estates. Course participants will also learn the tax implications of gifts and bequests during lifetime and at death. The approach provides students with taxation avoidance and minimization techniques useful in planning a client's estate.

Capstone Course

  • Consists of both online, self-paced study combined with live-online instruction. Students will learn how to prepare and present a financial plan using financial planning software and multiple approaches to identifying and planning for a client's goals and risks. This course does fulfill the CFP® Board's Capstone Course requirement.

Mr. Belyeu is president of Cornerstone Financial Planning, a financial planning practice concentrating on comprehensive financial consulting for individual and small to medium size businesses. Mr. Belyeu has over 27 years in the financial services industry, which includes countywide manager and First Vice President of Private Banking for SunTrust Bank. His degrees include a BS from the University of Florida and Master of Business Administration from the University of Central Florida. Mr. Belyeu has over 25 years of teaching experience which includes all modules of the CFP® certification education program and review courses, both in a traditional classroom and live, over the Internet.

James E. Coleman

James E. Coleman


Dr. Coleman’s teaching experience spans 15 years, including undergraduate, graduate and Executive MBA programs at Troy University, Mercer University and Dalton State College. In addition, as Vice President of Market Results, a financial planning training and consulting firm, he has helped hundreds of candidates pass the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ exam over the last decade. Prior to his academic career, Jim spent over a decade in public accounting and corporate management, concluding with the position of Managing Director of Public Relations at Federal Express, where he was responsible for the company’s global public and investor relations activities. His degrees include a MS and Ph.D. from University of Alabama as well as BBA in accountancy from University of Mississippi.

David W. Durr

Dr. David W. Durr


Dr. David W. Durr is a professor and the Arthur J. Bauernfeind Chair in Investment Management at Murray State University. He also directs the program in personal financial planning that is registered with the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Board of Standards Inc. Durr has worked with investment and financial services professionals across the country. For several years Durr has taught financial planning seminars/classes throughout the United States. Durr has taught courses in investment management, corporate finance, derivatives, portfolio management, and risk management. Durr is co-author of Dalton CFA Review: Study Notes Volume I and II. (Dalton Publications, L.L.C.) Durr earned a B.B.A. at the University of Texas at Austin, M.B.A. from Stephen F. Austin State University, and Ph.D. from the University of North Texas.

Joseph M. Gillice

Joseph M. Gillice


Mr. Gillice is a co-founder and President of Dalton Education, LLC. Previously, Mr. Gillice was Director of University Programs for BISYS Education Services, where he implemented and managed financial planning programs at Georgetown University, Duke University and many others. Mr. Gillice is a former adjunct faculty member at Georgetown, Northwestern and Duke Universities where he taught financial planning, insurance and investment planning. He is the author of Financial Calculator Essentials, co-author of Fundamentals of Financial Planning, The Dalton Review Pre-Study Materials in Investment Planning and Fundamentals of Insurance Planning. Mr. Gillice has a Master of Business Administration from Georgia State University and a finance degree from Florida State University.

William Joseph (Joe) Gosch

William Joseph (Joe) Gosch


Mr. Gosch spent over twenty years honing his skills working for companies such as the Internal Revenue Service, KPMG Peat Marwick, Coopers & Lybrand, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He now runs his own accounting and financial planning firm in the Houston, Texas area. Mr. Gosch earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree in accounting from The University of Texas at Austin and has been a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Texas for almost twenty years. He is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Chartered Global Management Accountant, Certified Information Systems Auditor (inactive status), and Fellow of the Life Management Institute.

David J. Klein, CFP

David J. Klein


Mr. Klein is an Expert in the Life Insurance Industry. He is currently a Regional Director for a National Brokerage Agency responsible for promotion of Life Insurance products in several Broker Dealers that includes Wells Fargo, Raymond James and Stifel Nicolaus, as well as with independent Insurance Agents. David is actively involved in recruiting Independent Financial advisors and Insurance Agents. He conducts Point of Sale meetings, as well as educational seminars and workshops for both client and producer goups. David provides sales assistance to advisors and agents and leverages in-depth product knowledge and sales leadership expertise to establish strong relationships throughout the U.S. Mr. Klein is a CFP® Certificant and has a BS from the University of Florida. Mr. Klein is a technical editor of The Dalton Review for the CFP®Certification Examination.

Mr. Langdon has held numerous leadership positions, having served on the Board of Examiners of the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Board of Standards, as academic advisor to the Society of Financial Service Professionals Business and Compensation Planning Section and as an education committee member for the Financial Analysts of Philadelphia. Mr. Langdon’s articles have appeared in Financial and Estate Planning Quarterly and The American Bar Association Small Firm Digest, among other publications. Randy C. Martinez, MS, CPA, CFP Randy Martinez, MS, CPA, CFP® holds a Master's of Accounting with a specialization in Tax from the University of New Orleans and a Bachelor's of Accountancy from Loyola University in New Orleans. Randy is licensed in the state of Georgia as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional. Prior to founding Asset Advisors Group, LLC Randy spent several years with the high-net worth Personal Financial Planning group of the international accounting firm of KPMG, LLP where he advised clients on tax minimization strategies related to estate and gift planning, retirement planning, and individual income tax planning and compliance. He is an adjunct professor in the continuing education departments of Georgetown University, Duke University and Emory University. Over 1000 financial advisors have attended Randy’s classes.

Mariette T. O'Malley


Mariette O'Malley is a tax partner in private practice focused on individual tax and financial planning issues. She is a frequent lecturer on tax and financial matters to local business and civic groups, a contributing speaker to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and a contributing author to CPE course on 401(k) plans designed for the Internet. Ms. O'Malley has taught review courses for CPA exam candidates and the CFP® Certification Examination. She is a member of the American Association of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants, AICPA and American Bar Association.

John J. Pallaria

John J. Pallaria


John Pallaria, ChFC, CRPS, CFP, EA, is Director of Business Development at The Principal Financial Group, focusing on developing and strengthening the channels in which Principal’s various retirement products are marketed in New England. John joined Principal in 2003 and was previously the Account Executive Director where he led the team that services Principal’s existing retirement plans. John is an adjunct faculty member at Boston University where he teaches Income Tax and Retirement Planning in BU’s CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ program. He has taught previously in Merrimack College’s (Mass) CFP® program. John received a BS in Business Administration from Merrimack College, an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University, the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation from The American College, as well as the Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist (CRPS) and Chartered Retirement Plans Counselor (CRPC) from The College for Financial Planning.

Sterling is a fee-only financial planner and investment advisor practicing in the Springfield, IL area. He comes from a broad background in insurance and investment planning working with individuals and companies from personal financial planning to corporate retirement plans. Additionally, Sterling is an adjunct professor and teaches for two different colleges. Sterling is a CFP® professional and works with Dalton Education teaching Fundamentals, Investments, and Insurance live review courses.

Kristi Tafalla is president of KMTafalla Financial and Legal Services, LLC, which provides professional services including legal services, financial planning, and development and consulting services to financial services providers. Ms. Tafalla has contributed to several recognized academic texts including Estate Planning for Financial Planners, Retirement Planning for Financial Planners, and Personal Financial Planning: Theory and Practice. She also contributed to the Dalton Review for the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Exam and was the editor of and a contributor to Review for the Hong Kong CFP® Certification Exam, Papers 1-4. Ms. Tafalla was previously the director of product development for BISYS Education Services/Dalton Publications.
