Abraham U. Park is an associate professor of finance at Pepperdine University. He has taught Real Estate Investments & Finance, Advanced Real Estate, and Corporate Finance at the MBA and Executive MBA levels. His current research is related to REITs, retail real estate, and corporate real estate. Dr. Park has over 12 years of experience in law, Silicon Valley technology start-up, management consulting, hedge fund, and global real estate investment and finance. He has worked and lived in the U.S., Asia, and Europe.

Mr. Heffernan is the Director of Executive Real Estate Certificate Programs and Adjunct Professor of Real Estate at Pepperdine University. He has taught Real Estate Development. His responsibilities include growing the graduate real estate programs through industry alliances and strategic partnerships. Mr. Heffernan is an expert in the commercial real estate investment banking, development, construction and institutional investment asset management sectors through innovations in data and analytical models from non-traditional sources and executive relationships.

Diane has 30+ years of commercial real estate investment experience which includes originating both debt and equity, asset management, operations and development, restructuring and work outs, and corporate finance and capital raising. Diane has started up de-novo businesses and run satellite offices. Most recently, she co-founded W3, a real estate operating company focused on the acquisition, repositioning and operation of value-add office properties in the Western U.S.

She is also the co-founder of PowRE, an invitation only, international organization of senior real estate women investment professionals and was voted Most Influential Business Woman by San Francisco Business Journal and Real Estate Forum Magazines. Diane currently sits on the board of Extra Space Management (NYSE: EXR), the second largest self-storage REIT.

Tim Joyce has been in the Southern California real estate market for over 30 years working with Chief Executive Officers, Chief Financial Officers, and Directors of Corporate Real Estate regarding institutional and corporate dispositions, real estate planning strategies and analysis, institutional BOV's, and financing. From 2008 to 2013, Mr. Joyce has sold or leased over $320 million in office or industrial real estate, averaging just over $60 million per year. Tim has also sold over 170 acres of land in Southern California to various companies or developers for corporate headquarters and/or development.

Prior to joining PMRG, Tim was a Principle at CLW Commercial Real Estate and Senior Vice President at Grubb & Ellis. At CLW, he co-owned and ran the commercial real estate operations, increasing sales growth by 200%. At Grubb & Ellis, Tim was Director of Corporate Services in the Western Region where he handled the sale of the Corporate Headquarters for Hyundai Motor America in Fountain Valley, the regional distribution hub for Mitsubishi Corporation, and the relocation of both Fluor's and Safeco's Orange County headquarters. He also oversaw the relocation of over 2,000 employees with Loral Aeronutronics, now Lockheed Martin.

Mr. Joyce was also a partner at Colliers-Seeley where he managed the South Orange County operations for sales and leasing. Tim was the top producing manager/partner his first year with the company, selling the Mission Energy Industrial portfolio to Kilroy Realty REIT. Tim has been recognized as a top producer several times at both Colliers-Seeley and Grubb & Ellis. Tim attended Seattle University via scholarship where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education. He holds a real estate license in the state of California.


Sam Freshman

After graduating from Stanford University in 1954 and Stanford Law School in 1956, Sam was admitted to the California State Bar in 1957 and became General Counsel of Jacob Stern & Sons, a 60 year old real estate investment company. In 1959, he founded Freshman, Marantz, Orlanski, Cooper, and Klein Law Corporation of Beverly Hills, specializing in all areas of real estate. The firm now is the Century City office of K&L Gates. He is Chairman of Stanford Professionals in Real Estate (The Real Estate Alumni of Stanford).

In 1961, he founded real estate investment and management firm Standard Management Company. As chairman, Sam oversees investment strategy and acquisition. Standard acquires, develops, and manages hundreds of millions of dollars worth of income property. During its history, Standard has managed property in 15 states and 25 cities, including 6,000 apartment units; a mobile home park; 2,500,000 sq. ft. gross rentable commercial space in 16 shopping centers; 4 office buildings; and 1,200,000 sq. ft. of industrial properties, totaling more than $800 million dollars of market value.

Sam is an expert in real estate syndication and has been a general partner in over 100 real estate projects. He has secured, negotiated, and documented more than $500 million dollars of real estate loans as a lender, borrower, attorney, banker, and property manager. His investors have included life insurance companies, pension funds, and high-net worth individuals and families.

In addition, Sam is chairman of Water Techniques, a California water treatment company. He was also president of Standard Theaters; managing member of Available Money, an ATM network; director-secretary of Banner Gelatin Products Corporation, a pharmaceutical company; chairman of Trans State Title Company; and secretary and board member of Marina Mercy Hospital, a 200-bed hospital in Marina del Rey, California. In the banking arena, Sam was chairman of Bank of Los Angeles an advisory director of Imperial Bank of Los Angeles, American City Bank, and Banco Ponce, formerly Banco Popular.

Sam has been a member of the American College of Forensic Examiners since 1994, and has qualified and served as an expert witness in real estate matters in both state and federal courts. He has appeared in more than 90 cases related to legal and real estate malpractice, custom and practice fiduciary duties of attorneys and brokers, title insurance, due diligence, development, construction, banking and lease interpretation, syndication, and finance. He has been a mediator and arbitrator for many years, specializing in real estate. He has qualified with the Bankruptcy Court as special counsel on real estate securities matters in several cases.

As Executive Vice President and Managing Director for PM Realty Group’s (PMRG’s) Western Division, Jim Proehl is responsible for managing a portfolio of over 25 million square feet in 11 western states with a staff of over 225 real estate professionals. Mr. Proehl's success with coordinating the repositioning of numerous projects and transitioning large multi-building portfolios in his 19 years with PMRG has helped fuel the growth of the Western Division. Mr. Proehl brings more than 30 years of diversified real estate experience in asset management, development, finance and property management.

Prior to joining PMRG, Mr. Proehl held the position of Development Manager for Tooley & Company where he managed the development of two high-rise Class A office buildings, each in excess of 400,000 square feet. As a Senior Asset Manager with Metropolitan Life, Mr. Proehl managed a Colorado and Kansas commercial real estate portfolio valued at over $300 million, including office buildings, hotels and retail centers. Mr. Proehl began his real estate career at Williams Realty Corporation, where he was an Associate Development Director with responsibilities for coordinating the legal, planning, financial, design and construction management for two mixed-use projects in Kansas City and San Antonio. In addition to his development experience at Williams, Mr. Proehl gained a thorough understanding of the financial reporting requirements of working for a publicly traded company. Mr. Proehl holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Tulsa with an emphasis in real estate and a bachelor’s degree from Southeast Missouri State University.

Mr. Cohen joined Resmark in 2001. With more than 20 years of real estate experience, he has been involved in the financing and development of over 10,000 residential units in the United States and Israel. Mr. Cohen's responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operations and strategy for Resmark Apartment Living. Under his direction since 2011, Resmark's multifamily division has acquired and developed approximately 4,500 units through joint venture and direct investments. Previously, Mr. Cohen established the firm's Northern California Division in 2003 and successfully expanded its California operations. He also led Resmark's emergence as a key player in the area of direct investments in land and housing in 2007.

Prior to joining Resmark, Mr. Cohen was a member of Fieldstone Communities' management team, where he was responsible for land acquisition and entitlements, product design, construction management, and sales and marketing operations for multiple projects. Before arriving in the United States, he served as an operations manager for Peled Residential Construction in Israel and prior to that as an officer in the Israeli Defense Forces. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Tel Aviv University, and an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University.

Perry Pound serves as Los Angeles Managing Director for Greystar Real Estate Partners. A multifamily professional since 2002, he joined Greystar in 2011. He has sourced and is developing a $1 billion pipeline for Greystar. Perry previously led the Southern California acquisition and development efforts for Alliance Residential, JPI, BRE Properties and the Olson Company, resulting in the acquisition and development of 2,500 residential units, for a total investment of over $1 billion. Perry received a Master’s Degree in International Finance from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and completed his second year in Real Estate Finance and Development at Harvard Business School.

He received his B.A., cum laude, from Pepperdine University, where he served as Student Body President. Prior to his real estate career, he worked as a Chief of Staff for a City Council Member and as an Intern for a former United States President. Perry serves as a mentor for real estate technology accelerators Moderne Ventures and Second Century Ventures, and is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the National Multi Housing Council, and the Los Angeles World Affairs Council.
