Financial Planning Program

Fulfill the Education Requirement Necessary to Attain Your CFP®

The Certified Financial Planner™ certification (CFP) is the credential consumers recognize, respect, and demand when choosing a financial planner. The Graziadio School, in partnership with Dalton Education, offers three CFP programs designed to fulfill the Certified Financial Planner™ education requirement necessary to attain your financial planning certification:

  • Guarantee to Pass™: A comprehensive education and review course including personalized study programs and one-on-one instruction from a Dalton faculty member. This instructor-led, live-online financial planning certification option provides a 100 percent guarantee to pass the CFP® exam or receive a refund.
  • Virtual Classroom: Instructor-led online CFP education for learners who prefer interaction with instructors and a more structured learning style.
  • Self-Paced Online: Flexibility for professionals who want and need to set their own CFP study schedules.

These programs are designed to fulfill the education requirement to sit for the CFP® exam and upon successful completion of the program, you will also receive a certificate of completion from Pepperdine Graziadio Business School. 

Program Overview

Participants in the Guarantee to Pass™ and the Virtual Classroom programs meet two nights per week, for two hours each night. Participants in the Self-Paced Online program customize learning to fit their individual needs.

Guarantee to Pass™
A comprehensive study and exam preparation bundle comprised of both the CFP® certification education and Guarantee to Pass™ Review.

  • Additional study materials -- flashcards, calculator, and more
  • Upon completion of the Virtual Classroom program participants have:
    • Satisfied the course requirements of the CFP® Certification Examination.
    • Substantial knowledge and technical skills for professional competency as a financial planner.
    • Knowledge of all topics mandated by the CFP® Board of Standards.

Self-Paced Online

  • Finish CFP course in nine months or less
  • An assigned advisor will stay in touch and help keep participants on pace
  • Online modules, including recorded whiteboard lectures, videos, interactive games and exercises - available anytime
  • Course designed by instructors that served on the CFP Board of Examiners
  • Access to watch recordings of exam reviews where instructors cover the most important concepts for the course and what is most likely to be on the exams

Fundamentals of Financial Planning and Insurance
Introduces participants to the theory and practice of financial planning. It provides an overview of the financial planning process and offers guidance for managing a client's risk while achieving goals through savings and investments. Topics include life, health, disability and long-term care as well as property, Social Security and personal liability insurance. In addition, the course covers time value of money, education and retirement funding. A financial calculator, such as an HP12C or 10bII, is required.

Investment Planning
Introduces concepts regarding modern portfolio theory, risk reduction, debt and equity securities, derivatives (including options and futures contracts) and asset allocation strategies. Participants will learn how to determine a client's risk tolerance and select appropriate assets based on the assessed risk tolerance and the client's goals.

Income Tax Planning
Provides detailed coverage of gross income inclusions, exclusions, deductions before and after adjusted gross income, and tax credits, while focusing on the taxation of individuals, sole proprietorships, C-corps, S-corps, partnerships and LLCs. In addition, participants will learn planning techniques for taxation avoidance and minimization strategies.

Retirement and Employee Benefit Planning
Provides a comprehensive overview of qualified (defined benefit, profit share, 401(k) plans) and non-qualified (deferred compensation, incentive stock options, employee stock purchase plans) retirement plans, other tax-advantaged plans (SIMPLE, Roth and traditional IRAs), and employee benefits. This course also presents an overview of the Social Security disability and health care programs such as Medicare.

Estate Tax Planning
Provides professionals with an introduction to wills, trusts, the probate process and the taxation of estates. Course participants will also learn the tax implications of gifts and bequests during lifetime and at death. The approach provides students with taxation avoidance and minimization techniques useful in planning a client's estate.

Capstone Course
Consists of both online, self-paced study combined with live online instruction. Students will learn how to prepare and present a financial plan using financial planning software and multiple approaches to identifying and planning for a client's goals and risks. This course does fulfill the CFP® Board's Capstone Course requirement.
