Stephen Pile

Stephen Pile, Nu 1988

Granville, Ohio and Manhattan, New York
Program Liaison
Co-president, Alumni Group

Pile began his career, armed with an M.S. in mechanical engineering degree, first at Texas Instruments and then at Exxon Chemical Company. After several years of large- scale startup management, a desire to be more grounded to the human side led to Pepperdine. The MSOD experience catalyzed a move from line management at Exxon Chemical to worldwide OD team leader for the company.

Pile began his external practice in 1990 as a partner at Strategic Alignment Group in Los Gatos, where the emphasis was on time to market, primarily in high tech companies, pharmaceuticals, and automotive. He has a quarter horse business in Ohio called Two Hawks Farm, so named as a tribute to MSOD founder Pat Williams and his metaphorical "hawks view of the territory." His consulting practice operates under that umbrella. His practice includes large system change, leadership development, strategic planning, process redesign, and developing internal OD paraprofessionals to support change.

Pile's recent focus is supporting the growth of OD as a profession. To that end, he has become a learning group consultant, joined the MSOD Alumni Board and the National ODN Design Committee, and has been helping young professionals get started. He and his wife are also partners in a specialty home furnishings business, Collier West, and divide their time between Granville, Ohio and Manhattan, New York.

Redondo Beach, CA
Advanced Knowledge and Practice

Co-president, Alumni Group

Heffelfinger's business focused predominately in the area of leadership development, executive coaching, leadership team development, leadership training and talent management/succession planning.

She has more than 20 years of management consulting experience working with companies that believe investment in people significantly impacts the bottom line. Heffelfinger's clients have praised her for her ability to give feedback that gets directly to the "heart of the issue" and for her ability to build "ownership" in individuals and organizations. She has two niches: entertainment and technology/engineering (aerospace, pharma, high tech or technology leaders in other industries).

Prior to becoming a management consultant, Heffelfingerheld leadership roles in OD and HR at Raytheon, Allied Signal/Honeywell, Ashland Chemical, and Monsanto.

Heffelfinger currently runs the LA Affinity Group with Liza Taylor and has had a ball partnering with Trine Jensen on the knowledge & practice committee of the board. hathron

Charlie Hathorn, Beta, 1977
Tucson, Arizona and Maine, New York

Advanced Knowledge and Practice

Hathorn, along with Georgianne (Smith) Podrug, is a co-chair for the AKP initiative. A mostly retired practitioner, Hathorn re-established his affiliation with MSOD after 30 years, became a Learning Group Consultant, and joined the MSOD Alumni board in early 2009 to administer the biannual survey.

Hathorn retired from Sun Microsystems in 2000, where he was Customer Satisfaction Manager for International HR. His primary interest is in developing OD consultants. The program required supervised practice and mentoring of participants. A successful review of consulting projects by faculty and peers resulted in certification.

He limits his current practice to occasional work with public service agencies in his rural upstate location. His consulting stance comes from a Gestalt perspective. He holds several certifications from the Geslalt Institute of Cleveland and graduated from the OSD VII program in 1987. He also has done extensive graduate work in educational psychology (Rutgers), holds a B.S. (Physics) from the University of the South and a BEE (Electrical Engineering) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
