Graziadio Spotlight Stories

Tara Saboff

Why did you decide to go back to school to earn your MBA?

"I always knew earning my MBA was a part of my long-term career path. I also knew the longer I waited, the harder it would be to go back to school, so now just felt like the right time in my career. I was at a good point in my life where I knew I could drop everything, move across the country and go to school."

Why did you choose Pepperdine Graziadio?

"Moving to California has been a dream of mine, but after finally coming out here and visiting the Pepperdine University Malibu Campus as an undergraduate, I knew I had to be here. Pepperdine offers students much more than a beautiful campus with an ocean view. It offers the highest quality of business education with real world application and expert faculty who have years of industry experience."

How has Pepperdine Graziadio helped you professionally and personally to date?

"My experience at Pepperdine University expanded my skill set as a young professional. I took on several leadership roles while at the Graziadio School, which developed my communication and leadership skills in and outside of the classroom."

How did you support the community at Pepperdine Graziadio? How will you stay engaged as a recent graduate?

"As a student, I supported the Graziadio community in several ways. As co-president of Challenge for Charity (C4C), I led one of nine non-profit organizations on the West Coast that draws on the talents, energy and resources of MBA students. Proceeds from our events raised funds to support the Special Olympics, Boys and Girls Club of Santa Monica and the Children's Lifesavings Foundation. I also served as the mentorship committee chair for Emerging Leaders. In this role, I matched first year MBA students with second year MBA students to establish mentorship relationships. Lastly, I was director of finance for the Graziadio Leadership Society, an on-campus club providing networking and professional development opportunities throughout the school year.

As a recent graduate, I hope to stay engaged by continuing to support Pepperdine at special alumni events and sharing my experience with prospective students interested in earning their MBA at the Graziadio School."

What advice would you give current or prospective students?

"To get involved in any way you can – join clubs, attend events and take on leadership roles. The more opportunities you give yourself to network and push out of your comfort zone, the better your experience at Pepperdine will be. Earning your MBA isn't all about getting good grades in your classes; it's also about building strong relationships, making good connections and positioning yourself for success in the next stage in your career."

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

"I aspire to be at the executive level, hopefully a Chief Financial Officer – but most importantly, I hope to be using my skills and expertise to make an impact within my company."
