Graziadio Spotlight Stories

Samanaz Kapadia

"When I was in college, I met a lot of people who were in the military and I developed a connection to the armed services. I feel it’s important to give back to those who serve our country and for several years I’ve helped send care packages to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. From talking to veterans I know, I’ve learned that one of the hardest things about returning to civilian life is finding a place in the workforce. In addition to the programming and commercial administration work I do as a Senior Manager at FOX Sports, I also work with American Corporate Partners. ACP is a non-profit organization which works to ease the transition from the military to the civilian workforce. I’m currently mentoring a veteran who wants to work in the entertainment industry. I talk to him every few weeks and connect him with people and resources to help him with his job search."

Pepperdine Graziadio: Flexible, Convenient and Values-Based

"I chose Pepperdine Graziadio for my MBA because the program fit well with both my personal and professional life. I liked the variety of courses, diversity of students and flexibility of program. The students came from all different backgrounds and industries which provided me with unique perspectives and insights. And since I was working full-time while getting my MBA, having a program close by where I could take night and weekend classes was essential."

"I’ve wanted to get an MBA since I was 12 when I first understood the value of higher education. I knew having an MBA would help me move up the corporate ladder and it was important to me to go to a school that reflected my values. Helping veterans further their education and re-enter the workplace is a cause that I’m passionate about and I love that the Graziadio School supports those who have worked tirelessly to protect our freedoms."

Giving Back: Sharing My Industry Experience

"My concentration in the Fully Employed MBA program (FEMBA) was leadership and managing organizational change. Through this program, I improved my soft skills and learned how to better manage a team and accomplish a common vision. I was delighted when I was asked to participate in a Graziadio event called Industry Insights from Entertainment, Media, and Technology. I love helping students who want to work in the entertainment industry and I’m looking forward to sharing my experience with students who want to pursue a similar career. I always enjoy talking about how I’ve put my Graziadio MBA to good use!"
